Developed in 2023 by Electrão, this pilot project aimed to measure the amount of street waste that could be recovered, particularly from litter bins and manual sweeping.
The results indicate that the recovery of urban cleaning waste would enable an increase of over 10% in recycling in the municipality. Recycling used packaging from street cleaning operations could help increase recycling numbers in Portugal, bringing the country closer to the challenging targets it has to reach in the coming years.
